Fees and vetting
This page summarizes how databrokerhub works. Each sale is governed by a written listing agreement and license, which we're finalizing with counsel.
Listing is free
Sellers and brokers pay nothing to list. Buyers pay nothing to browse, send requests or review datasheets.
The success fee is tied to delivery
Our standard fee is 15% of the license price on the first $1 million of a sale and 10% of anything above that, paid from the sale proceeds. It's written into the listing agreement before we introduce any buyer. It becomes due when the buyer pays for a package delivered through databrokerhub. That's the package we built and verified, with a manifest whose hashes match what the buyer received and an audit trail behind it.
If a buyer we introduced licenses the same data from the seller outside databrokerhub within 24 months, the fee still applies. The buyer also loses what our delivery provides: the rights record, the verified package and the audit trail.
Every listing is vetted
Before a listing is public we confirm:
- who the seller is, and that the person submitting can sign for it
- that the data is what the listing says, from a sample we review with the seller
- that it falls in a category we list
Before anything is delivered, every item on the clearance standard needs an answer and evidence, and counsel has to sign off.
How we handle a seller's raw data
- We de-identify the data ourselves rather than asking sellers to. Every person becomes a consistent pseudonym across chat, email and tickets, so who-said-what-to-whom survives without names.
- We hold raw exports only while we build the package, and delete them within 7 days of packaging. Each deletion is recorded in the deal's audit trail.
- Nothing goes to a buyer until the package is cleared and reviewed.
License terms we recommend
- No perpetual licenses. Terms are fixed, usually up to 24 months.
- Exclusivity, if offered, is for a fixed period. If a sale or exit of your company is on the horizon, time the term to end around it, so a new owner can license the data again.
- Fresh data can be sold as an ongoing feed under its own term.
What we don't list
- Consumer personal data: information about app users, shoppers or patients, people-search records and location histories
- Data that was scraped, or collected in breach of a contract or terms of service
- Health, biometric, children's, financial-account and government-ID data
- Data whose seller can't show authority to license it
What we do with what you send us
Listing and request forms go to our team, to reply to you and to vet listings. A listing's public text is published only after you've agreed to it. Contact details are never shown on the site. The scrubber on the home page runs entirely in your browser, and nothing you drop into it is uploaded.
databrokerhub provides a clearance process, not legal advice. Sellers and buyers should have their own counsel review each license.
